I'll admit it, I'm not blond, 5'10 or size 4. And though I've been wearing Uggs longer than most of my friends, none of them really think of me as a trend setter for sheepskin boots or anything else really. Oprah Winfrey & Kate Hudson beat me there. But hey, does any of that really matter? Isn't my own individual style independent of what the media parade of Hollywood girls are wearing this season? Truth: at some point in your life, you value something more than you'd expect, solely based on the fact that it just feels good.
How many items in your wardrobe have you bought more than once? For me, it's 2: I had to replace a wonderful Dooney & Bourke handbag, after just two weeks and it was lost/stolen/missing on a snowy downtown night last April, but that's another story. And these boots, which are just so freaking comfortable I just bought my 3rd pair. Not that my second pair is falling apart really, but will they make another full winter?
Let's be specific: we're talking about the Classic short boots, the ones that have the full sheepskin lining from toe to top, not one of their new styles that are mostly leather with a bit of fur trim on the outside. I got the metallic gold, it's a dyed finish that's almost subtle, deeper in tone than you'd expect. I don't think they made enough of the metallic colors because everyone's sold out now, but if you have too much cash lying around you might be able to get a pair of metallics for $250 or so on Ebay. Last year I had a really hard time finding my size 7 in just about any color, so this year I knew to beat the crowds and shop early. If I was going to buy another pair this year, maybe the black would be nice....
But as I was looking around, I kept coming across Ugg-bashing blog posts and news articles. Some were a couple of years old, and okay it's understandable if you need to lash back against a trend, but even now there are people that need to keep shouting thatUggs are soooo over. Well, I'm sure the cognoscenti have moved on to the next new look, but a lot of women don't even think of sheepskin boots as trendy any more. Like I said, they just feel good. There's even a video on youtube of some guy who verbally assaults a woman at the movies because of her choice in footwear. Please, let it go, people. They're just shoes.
Shopping for Ugg's sheepskin boots is pretty easy online, once you know to look for free shipping, stay away from the knockoffs, and that they run a little on the large side. Wear them barefoot; even if they feel a bit snug at first, the sheepskin will conform to the shape of your feet and keep them warm and comfortable, and every time you slide them on you'll value your Australian Ugg boots just a little more.
